Sedation Dentistry

Sedation DentistryFor millions of Americans, going to the dentist is often the last thing they want to do. Patients suffering with toothaches may ignore the pain for weeks or even months, all because they are too nervous about what the dentist might do.

However, it’s important to get your toothaches treated as soon as possible. Usually oral pain can be resolved easily and non-invasively in its early stages, but the longer you wait, the more you risk the pain developing into a serious infection that could even be life-threatening.

At Majestic Dentistry, Dentist in Anthem and our compassionate team never want you to feel worried while in our care. We want to ensure that you and your loved ones always have the most positive experience possible during even the most intensive dental procedures. Majestic Dentistry offer sedation dentistry to relieve any anxiety you might experience.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation (“Laughing Gas”)

Nitrous oxide, commonly called “laughing gas,” is a sedative gas often used in dental offices to keep patients at ease. Laughing gas is inhaled through a mask that is placed over your nose. The gas can soothe your anxiety and keep you feeling tranquil and even happy while the dentist is working on your teeth.

What Are the Effects of Laughing Gas?

Laughing gas is very safe, which is why it’s so commonly used. It has no color or smell and is usually not irritating. It may feel as if you are breathing in only oxygen.

The effects of laughing gas usually appear after just a few minutes. Most report a pleasant feeling of being relaxed and euphoric. You may also feel a little light-headed or dizzy. Your arms and legs may tingle. You can request the flow of gas be stopped at any time if you are uncomfortable with its effects.

Laughing gas is not meant to make you sleep, so you will stay awake the whole time but perhaps less aware of what is going on around you. You will be able to follow instructions from your dentist but may not remember everything about the visit once the gas is turned off.

The effects of laughing gas fade away as soon as it is shut off. There are usually no lasting effects, so you can drive home safely afterwards and continue with your daily routine.
